Research-
I want to take photos of little house plants and big mountains after sunset. I also want to get the moon in some of my photos.
20 Photos-
I wanted to take pictures of the sun's lighting. I like the way that the sun stands out because of the black foreground.
4 Edits-
I used the blur tool and a filter.I really like how the blur has an effect, you have to look at it more than once to really understand what is going on.
Final Mat Photo
I printed and mated one of the photos that I edited. It has a black border. I chose the black because there is black in my photo and I think it will help to emphasize the yellow sun.
5 Step Critique
Step 1: Observe
Step 2: Describe
I see the sun in the middle of the photograph. It is behind dark trees. The trees only cover some of the sun, but not all of it. The trees make up the foreground. In the background the sky is blue and there are clouds above the sun. The sun is a pale yellow, and it starts with its lightest color in the center of the circle and as the circle moves outward the color darkens. Underneath the tall, main trees is a black bottom.
Step 3: Analyse
Value in this photograph is used to create emphasis. Since the foreground is dark and the sun is light, it is drawing your attention to the brighter object. The dim background of the blue sky and the white clouds makes the brightness of the sun stand out even more. Since the photograph goes from dark in the foreground to light in the background, it leaves space for the brightness of the sun to attract your eye.
Step 4: Interpret
The mood of this photo is happy, but it has a slight dark tone to it. The happiness comes from the bright sun and the blue and white background. When you look at it, your eye goes automatically to the sun, but then it moves to the trees that are blocking the sun and you get a sort of dark tone. Even though the background and main subject is light, the foreground is what gives the photograph a dark tone to it. The purpose of this was to show the sun right before sunset. There are so many photos of sunsets out there that this was meant to show something different and unique.
Step 5: Evaluate
I like this piece. I think that it is unique because it is not quite at sunset. The trees give it a good story and so do the clouds behind it. Something that went well was the value of the light. I like the brightness of the sun compared to the darkness of the trees. Something that didn't go so well was the sky color. I wish that there had been less clouds and the sky had been more blue.
