Research-
I want to take pictures of plants and objects that the snow has covered.
20 Photos-
I wanted to take pictures of objects in the snow. I got pictures of logs, trees, and birdhouse, and my dog. I like how some of them are close up and how some of them are taken farther away.
4 Edits
I used the vibrance tool, black and white filter, spot heal tool, and the lasso.
Final Mat Photo
I printed and mated a photo that I edited. It has a white border that goes well with the white snow.
5 Step Critique
Step 1: Observe
Step 2: Describe
I see a photograph that is surrounded by a white border. The photo is of yellow, orange, red, and brown logs. There is a dark brown bark that covers the vibrant color of the inside of the log. White snow is on top of the logs and there is snow falling in front of the camera. The the background you can see the faint outline of trees and branches covered in snow. On the ends of the branches there is orange leaves. Coming out of the logs are sticks covered in snow.
Step 3: Analyze
In this photograph, color is used to create emphasis. The bright, vibrant colors of the logs, stand out apart from the white snow and grey background. Texture is used to create contrast. This connection can be seen with the designs on the logs and the snowflakes. The snowflakes are light and small where as the middle of the logs are brighter and larger.
Step 4: Interpret
This photograph is very peaceful. It is very unified and calm. This can be seen where the snow and logs touch. The snow has fallen very gently on the logs. Everything is still and that's what makes it peaceful. The purpose of the photo is to get people to look at things that they wouldn't normally look at. Logs are interesting and unique. People should take time to appreciate the simpler things, such as snow.
Step 5: Evaluate
I like this piece. I think it is relatively artistic and unique. Something that went well was the way that the snow fell on the logs. The snow landed in all the right places to make this picture successful. What didn't go so well was the angle. I really wish that I had taken the picture while including the lower parts of the logs.
