My Plan-
I want to take artistic dance photos of my friend in the dark, with using the camera's light as the only light source. I want to edit the photos to make them darker and have more contrast, because that is more outside my comfort zone.
My Photoshoot-
For this photo shoot I had my friend get into different poses. We took these pictures at our dance studio in a room that is currently being refinished. We thought it would make a cool background. My original idea was to use only the light that came from the camera, and we did that in the room that is being remodeled, but in this hallway that we took the photos I ended up printing, we were not able to turn off the lights because then the whole building's lights would turn off. We tried lots of different things, but I ended up liking the photos in the hallway the best.
My Edits-
Here are the photos that I edited for this project. I included them because they were the best out of the photos I took. The top two I turned the brightness down, and upped the contrast to create a sort of dark mood. The bottom left one I left relatively natural, except for turning up the contrast and the saturation. The bottom right I put this filter over it that made it have a blurred water effect to it. I prefer the top two, I like how they turned out a I think they do a good job of representing my overall theme, as well as staying artistic. If I could go back to the photoshoot I would definitely try to get a bigger variety of angles.
My Printed Photos-
I liked these photos both separate and together, and so I decided to print them both. My friend and I took many photos, just to figure out which one would work the best. I ended up choosing photos that I took in the hallway because I like the way we were able to use both of the walls to our advantage. I like how they turned out, they are unique and I feel like they encompass my theme really well. In photoshop, both of the photos were very bright and had no contrast. The walls reflected a boring color and it just wasn't my best work. After going in and turning up the darkening, turning up the brightness, vibrancy, saturation, and contrast I was able to put together photos that I actually liked. Without photoshop I would not have been able to use the photos. In the first photo I really like the contrast between her tan skin and her black clothes and hair. Then when you add in the shadow at the bottom of the frame and the door and exit sign in the background, it gives it a darker feeling, which I don't edit my photos like this as often. In both photos line is used to create emphasis between the line her body is making and the dark contrast of the photo. Your eye automatically goes to the girl in the photo and the line she has created. Overall this photo has helped me step out of my comfort zone and helped me realize that I am able to work with less natural looking photography. I plan on using the techniques I used in photoshop for assignment four again.
