Fashion Design and Illustration-January 2019
Part I: Artist Statement
I improved throughout this course because I have never made any article of clothing before and so this course challenged me on an entire new level. Just the fact that I am able to see a piece of clothing that I have created in person is a major break through for me. I was inspired to take fashion design because when I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer. Even though that is no longer true I still wanted to explore my options. I found that I could be a very challenging and creative process that I may look into.
I feel like my style is unique, but also is like a lot of other people. I created dresses in this semester and even though I prefer not to wear them, I think that they look great on other people. That is how my style is similar to others. It is different because even though my design was heavily influenced I still feel like it is unique. My style is calm and casual, but with a little bit of sass and edge to it. My style shows who I am as a person because they pieces are something that I would wear. Not on a daily basis of course, but when it is time to dress up I would definitely consider these pieces as an option. I like my style for garments to be comfortable yet practical. I feel like what I have put together has really shown that. When they see my clothing I want them to think that it is something that they could pull off. I want them to imagine themselves in the article of clothing and I want them to feel good in it. I want them to want to wear my pieces.
My life would be lifeless without art. Even when it comes down to what you are going to wear for the day, art defines you. Makeup could be art. So could hairstyles. In a world without art there wouldn't be any uniqueness. The world would be a boring place to live. No one would stand out and be different. Art defines who you are in so many ways and without it I couldn't be who I am. The arts relate to school because of projects. It relates because of how you organize and lay things out. There wouldn't be any fun in school without the artistic part of it. The arts relate to career and life decisions because there are so many art careers. You can be a photographer, illustrator, graphic designer, artist, art teacher, sculptor, dancer, animator, there are so many possibilities. Art is renewal. It lets you express yourself and be who you are. That's the most important thing. Without it, you could not be who you are.

Visual Arts Standard #3: Connecting - I can understand the relationship among the arts, history and world culture. I can make connections among the arts and to other disciplines, to goal-setting, and to interpersonal interaction.
Visual Arts Standard #4: Producing and Presenting - I can create an original body of work and and then select my best work to present it in a portfolio and an exhibition.
Part III: Evaluation of Portfolio
This portfolio shows my growth as a student in this class. I came into this course not knowing a thing about fashion design and I am coming out of it with the knowledge on how to create an article of clothing. It shows my progress with the redesign and it shows everything that I have done in this class. I learned how to write critiques and that helped me grow. You can see as you look through them. You can see the growth through the pictures of the redesign. Its such a huge transformation from the beginning of the semester to the end.
