My Plan-
For this shoot I want to take photos of old dance costumes in my studio's back room and I want to edit them by turning up the saturation.
My Photo Shoot-
For this shoot I went into my dance studio's back room and took pictures of all the costumes that were hanging on the racks. I wanted to take more close up photos than farther away ones because the photos I took from far away didn't turn out that good. I ended up taking photos from different positions around the room trying to find the best costume to fit the theme. I only like one of the photos.
My Edits-
Here are the photos that I edited. I turned up the contrast, vibrancy, and saturation, to make the bright colors of the costumes, catch your eye. I didn't decide to make the photos black and white because I felt like the colors of the costumes made more sense for my theme of dance, because you don't dance in black and white, you dance in color. The yellows in these photos popped out the most and I think that adds a fun element to the photos. Overall, I like the first photo I displayed the best.
My Printed Photo-
This is the photo that I ended up printing. When I took these photos it was really hard for me to come up with good ones because when I took the photos, it was at night and the only thing that was lighting the costumes up was the light on the camera. In the end it worked out because the light on the camera really brought out the vibrant colors. For this photo I turned up the lightness, saturation and contrast hoping to bring movement into the piece by using bright color. I think the combination of the dark room with the bright costumes was the best way to go because it brought emphasis to the colored costumes and variation with the contrasting colors of neon against black. Overall, I like this photo. I hope someone can tell that it is a costume, even if they are not involved in the dance world. I know that I know what it is and my dancer friends know what it is, so as long as it is understood in the dance community, it shows my overall theme of my portfolio in an artistic way.
