My Plan-
I want to take dance photos of a friend on pointe and shoot them in this tunnel on the river trail. I want to edit them so that the light coming in from the background makes the dancer stand out.
My Photo Shoot-
For this shoot I went down on the river trail to this tunnel that is close to the river and has a path running through it. I had her put on her pointe shoes and get into different positions. I put the camera on sports mode so that the action shots weren't fuzzy. I had her try many different things and I like the way that she is highlighted from the back of the tunnel. I like the photos of her doing the arabesque the most.
My Edits-
Here are my edited photos. I wasn't sure which ones to include, and I liked all of them so much that here are way more than I needed. For the tunnel photos I decreased the brightness/lightness and increased the contrast, vibrance and saturation. This made the walls of the tunnel darker, along with her clothes, making her figure stand out against the light background. On one of the tunnel ones I put a filter over it, making the photo seem like it has a rustic feel. On two of them I took them at a bridge. Again I decreased the brightness/lightness and increased the contrast, vibrance and saturation. This made the blue sky and water brighter and her darker. I am very happy with how they turned out.
My Printed Photos-
These are the photos that I ended up printing. I knew exactly what I had to do to in order to get the dancer to stand out from the tunnel. For both of these photos I decreased the brightness/lightness and increased the contrast, vibrance and saturation. This created the contrast I needed between the light background and dark walls of the tunnel. This made the dancer stand out, which is what I was aiming for. The way the dancer has been positioned creates a movement as throughout her body. Your eye automatically goes to the dancer and the line that she has created and this is what I hoped would happen. I really like the coloring of this photo it helps bring emphasis to the dancer. I played around with the idea of making it black and white and it just didn't look as good as it does in color. Overall these photos were successful when it comes to my overall theme. It is another create way to show dance and I really like how these photos turned out. If I did something different, I would take out the yellow line that is running through the tunnel. I think it is more of a distraction than something to enhance the photos.
